Embedded below is my presentation.
WE. HAD. A. BLAST! Everyone was just happy and smiling when the conference ended. The main comments we got was the time was too short, that it would have been better if the conference was until 5pm. That bitin feeling is a good feedback. It means people are hungry for more. :)
I just have a few comments on what went down in the seminar - some good, some bad, but all are definitely helpful for the next seminar organizers.
TIME
We didn't start on time. Our program said 8:30am, but we started 10 or 15 minutes late. Being the self-proclaimed responsible organizer that I am, I chose to cut down my presentation time just to compensate for the late start. That was a bummer.
PARTICIPANTS
The class expected 100 participants. I was happy if we got 70. The pre-registration was overwhelming; we got about 200 sign-ups on the first couple of hours that the registration form got publicized. So with this, I was expecting that the venue will be cramped with participants. But today, we tallied only 44 actual joiners. It did not even reach 50. There were a lot of empty seats. The worse thing is, there weren't even a single librarian on the audience. I kinda blame the secretariat committee for this. Because distributing the registration form was supposedly the job of my committee (publicity) and we/I already had a plan on how to have participants from the different fields (teachers, librarians, researchers, administrators, students). Oh well... :(
SPONSORS BOOTHS
The sponsors booths were great! I enjoyed listening and watching demos especially the stuff from Data Science. They were so cool! If only I had 55,000 pesos right there and then, I would have purchased that 3D Printer. Haha.
FOOD
The food committee did an amazing job at ordering two kinds of meals. That way, the participants were able to choose whether they'd prefer a burger steak meal from Jollibee or the chicken meal from KFC. I think Team KFC won! :D
OPENING REMARKS
Prof. Leny's opening remarks made me tear up. I know, I know. She did not give a dramatic speech. Her speech was very professional, relevant, and timely to the event. But I almost tear up because I saw the fruit of our efforts happening right before my eyes when she was talking. The meetings with my classmates, the Facebook chats, the panics, the chaos of it all, were culminated in a nice, almost organized event.
It was an unforgettable experience for me not only because it was my first time organizing a seminar with breakout sessions but also because it was my first time giving a briefer on the status of librarianship in the Philippines to fellow education service providers in the country. It made me proud of myself and the profession I belong to.
Cheers to EdTech270 and cheers to more educational and innovative seminars like this!
Signing out,
